How the San Francisco Giants will lineup for 2026 after the arrival of Luis Arráez
The Giants land one of baseball’s most reliable hitters on a short-term deal as Arráez chooses position over long-term security.
Luis Arráez, a three-time batting champion, has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Francisco Giants worth $12 million and will play second base.
The 28-year-old turned down multiyear offers in order to return to second base after spending last season at first base with the San Diego Padres.
Last season, Casey Schmitt, Tyler Fitzgerald and Christian Koss shared duties at second base for the Giants.Arráez has shown elite offensive consistency throughout his career, carrying a .317 batting average across his time in MLB. With the Padres last season, he hit .292/.327/.392 and collected 181 hits.
San Francisco had been searching for a second baseman for much of the offseason, with Brendan Donovan, Nico Hoerner and CJ Abrams among the names frequently mentioned in trade rumors.
