José Altuve thrilled with new Houston Astros deal: “I didn’t want to go anywhere else”
Altuve and Houston reached an agreement for a five-year contract extension in exchange for 125 million dollars.
Venezuelan second baseman José Altuve has become one of the great references for the Houston Astros in recent years in Major League baseball and a few days ago he was rewarded by the franchise with a new, long-term contract extension.
Altuve: “Houston is my home”
Altuve will remain with the Stars for five more seasons beginning in 2025 in exchange for 125 million dollars. The new MLB campaign, which gets underway on 28 March, will be Altuve’s 14th with the organization.
The Maracay-born player took time to share a few words upon his arrival at the training camp and assured that he had no other plans other than to continue with Houston. ”My wife and I have a lot of conversations about if we’re going to go somewhere else, if we’re going to stay here. And I think the best-case scenario was always here. Houston is my home. I obviously have two homes. I grew up in Venezuela, my country. Every time I go there, I tell my wife, ‘Let’s go home.’ And then, when it’s time to come back, I tell her, ‘Let’s come back home,” he told the media. As for the new MLB season, he added, “The goal is to win. I really didn’t want to go somewhere else. I was very happy to sign. My colleagues are already brothers to me. I’m very happy to continue doing the things I have been doing in recent years”.
Altuve will remain with the Astros until 2029. The extension, which becomes effective starting 2025, will see him earn $30 million per season from 2025-27 and $10 million in 2028 and 2029. The new contract also includes a $15 million signing bonus.
