MLB draft lottery: What is the order of teams for the pro baseball draft in July 2023?
The Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, and Oakland Athletics had a 16.5% chance of getting the first pick in the MLB Draft, and Pittsburgh won it.
Within the framework of the Winter Meetings, the MLB held for the first time in history a lottery to designate the team that will pick first in the 2023 Draft and the Pittsburgh Pirates were the winners.
The Pirates, Washington Nationals and Oakland Athletics had a 16.5 percent chance of getting the first pick after finishing with a 62-match record. -100, 55-107 and 60-102, respectively. The lowest those organizations could fall was the seventh pick.

The Minnesota Twins were the team that climbed the most positions, since having the thirteenth worst record of the season, they will choose in position number five. The teams that fell out of the top six were the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals, who had the fourth and fifth worst win-loss records in 2022.
This will be the sixth time that the Pirates will get the first over-all pick, the most in the history of the league.

Difference among sports
The MLB Draft Lottery establishes that the first six picks in the drafting process will be determined by lottery. This is more picks than in any other American sport.
The NBA lottery only serves to specify the order of the first four teams while the NHL only includes two. For its part, the NFL does not carry out this type of draw and the first selection always belongs to the worst team.
