MLB trades and contracts: Rundown of players and their new teams for the 2023 season
There’s been a lot of movement in the Major League Baseball offseason, with star players signing mega-contracts to either switch or stay with their teams.
The MLB offseason has been a busy one, with teams offering huge contracts to lure star players away from other organizations; and, in some cases, to convince them to stay.
The most-talked-about case of ‘should I stay or should I go’ involved Aaron Judge, who finally signed a nine-year, $360 million contract to stay with the New York Yankees. This is $146.5 million above the team’s reported initial offer, which he rejected. After Judge hit a total of 64 home runs, the Yankees eventually coughed up an offer that the standout slugger couldn’t refuse.
Other teams that were bent on keeping players for the long haul were the Philadelphia Phillies, who signed Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million deal, the San Diego Padres who locked up Xander Bogaerts for 11 years with a $280 million agreement, and the New York Mets, who signed Brandon Nimmo to an eight-year, $162 million extension.
