One more defeat for the New York Yankees, the tenth in the last 13 games. The pinstripes suffered their second loss in a row to the Cincinnati Reds finishing 3-2 Thursday.

Carlos Rodón’s bad streak continues. The Yankee pitcher suffered his sixth loss and the third in the last three starts. The left-handed pitcher pitched five and a third innings, surrendering three runs, two home runs, and two walks, but did manage to strike out eight of the 21 batters he faced. His frustration at being pulled by manager Aaron Boone was palpable.

The Reds took the lead in the second inning with a two-run home run by Noelvi Marte. The Dominican hit his first home run of the season when he sent the ball to left field at Yankee Stadium and drove in Tylers Stephenson to make the score 2-0.

Elly De La Cruz can’t stop stealing bases and tonight he added one more. ‘La Cocoa’ poached his 41st in the third inning after reaching base on a fielder’s choice and then taking second on catcher indifference. But that is where he would stay when Jeimer Candelario struck out to end the inning.

The fifth inning began with a Stuart Fairchild blast. The Reds’ center fielder hit it out of the park over the left field fence.

The Yankees come from behind, but fall short

In the seventh, Anthony Volpe took advantage of the fact that Jahmai Jones and Austin Wells were on base to clear the basepaths and put two runs on the scoreboard with a double.

Trent Grisham entered the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth when there were two outs and DJ LeMahieu was at first with Gleyber Torres at second base. The former San Diego Padres player faced Lucas Sims and the reliever dominated him with his fastball that reached 97 miles per hour to end the inning.

Alexis Díaz was brought on as the closer and the Puerto Rican did not disappoint. After leading off by walking Austin Wells, he redeemed it by getting Anthony Volpe to hit into a double play before Juan Soto hit a fly ball directly into Spencer Steer’s mitt.
