After its World Cup exit to England, when does Mexico return to action?
After being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, the tournament co-hosts will have several weeks before they return to the field.
The World Cup is over for the Mexican national team. Once again, the biggest tournament in world soccer proved unforgiving for El Tri, whose campaign ended in the round of 16. The team will now have roughly two months to regroup before returning to international action.
Despite enjoying its strongest group-stage performance in World Cup history, Mexico was unable to end its 40-year wait to return to the quarterfinals. However, thanks to the tournament’s expanded format, El Tri did get to play five matches at the same World Cup for the first time since 1986.
When will the Mexican national team play again?
Mexico will return to action in September during FIFA’s annual international window. The team’s opponents have yet to be announced, and it is not even certain how many matches they’ll play during that period.
FIFA’s September international window runs from September 21 through October 6, a stretch that could allow national teams to play up to four matches.
Who will be the head coach of the Mexican national team?
According to the plan laid out several months ago, Javier Aguirre will hand over the reins to Rafael Márquez, who served as an assistant coach during Aguirre’s tenure with El Tri.
The former Mexico defender is expected to lead the national team into the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
