MLB offseason negotiations are in full swing and the future of free agent Alex Bregman is still up in the air, although there’s no shortage of interest in the 30-year-old.

Bregman has spent the entirety of his nine-year MLB career with the Houston Astros but his previous contract expired at the end of the 2024 season. He won two World Series with the Astros and was a two-time MLB All-Star in Texas but looks eager to move on.

The Albuquerque-born third baseman hit .260/.315/.453 in 2024, with 26 homers and 75 RBIs. He also won an American League Gold Glove at third base. However Bregman turned down a six-year, $156 million contract offer from Houston, according to MLB.com.

Now in free agency, the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers are all thought to have expressed an interest in Bregman.

However the price tag could prove a sticking point. Bregman is thought to be seeking an offer closer to $200 million, pricing out the Houston Astros and making him a major acquisition for even the biggest of teams.

The Tigers are the latest to enter the race for Bregman and he could prove a valuable addition for Detroit. An experienced professional like Bregman would bolster a talented young core that shocked the league by sweeping the Astros in the 2024 Wild Card Series, their first postseason series win in a decade. Just two months on from that win, the Tigers may be about to get one over on the Astros for a second time.
