After the conclusion of the Major League Baseball season and postseason, which saw the Los Angeles Dodgers secure their eighth World Series title, the free agency period began with several blockbuster deals.

Leading the headlines is the Dominican star Juan Soto, who signed a record-setting deal with the New York Mets. Meanwhile, teams across the league are actively working to strengthen their rosters through negotiations with available talent.

Last season’s top free agents, Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, both joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking a significant boost for the team. This year, a new wave of elite players have entered free agency, seeking the best opportunities both financially and athletically.

Which players are free agents in MLB?

Among the most prominent names in this year’s free agency have been: Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Alex Bregman, Max Fried, Anthony Santander, Pete Alonso, Willy Adames, Jack Flaherty, and Tanner Scott.

Other notable players available include Gerrit Cole, Cody Bellinger, Shane Bieber, Christian Walker, Nathan Eovaldi, Teoscar Hernández, Michael Wacha, Ha-Seong Kim, Carlos Estévez, Clay Holmes, Yusei Kikuchi, Gleyber Torres, Tyler O’Neill, Sean Manaea, Max Scherzer, and Jurickson Profar, among others.

Notable Contracts Signed in Free Agency

Several free agents have already secured significant contracts this offseason. Among them, Dominican star Juan José Soto Pacheco made headlines by signing a record-breaking $765 million deal for 15 seasons with the New York Mets.

The Yankees, in urgent need of bolstering their pitching staff, landed Max Fried. The standout left-hander signed an eight-year contract worth $218 million, joining from the Atlanta Braves.

In another high-profile move, pitcher Blake Snell agreed to a five-year, $182 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, Willy Adames surprised many by inking a historic seven-year, $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.

The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Garrett Crochet via a trade with the Chicago White Sox. In return, the White Sox received a package of prospects, including Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman Gonzalez.

Pitchers dominated the player movement this offseason. Yusei Kikuchi joined the Los Angeles Angels, Luis Severino will continue his career with the Athletics (soon to relocate to Las Vegas), Frankie Montas signed with the New York Mets, Matthew Boyd joined the Chicago Cubs, Michael Wacha moved to the Kansas City Royals, and Shane Bieber landed with the Cleveland Guardians.

Top Remaining Free Agents

Pete Alonso
The first baseman has established himself as a top-tier power hitter, ranking second in home runs across MLB since his debut in 2019, behind only Aaron Judge. Nicknamed the “Polar Bear,” Alonso has hit at least 34 home runs in five full seasons, with his lowest total—16—coming during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Alex Bregman
After nine successful seasons with the Houston Astros, during which he won two World Series titles, Bregman remains a coveted free agent. The third baseman also earned a Silver Slugger Award and a Gold Glove in 2024, solidifying his reputation as a two-way player.

Corbin Burnes
Pitcher Corbin Burnes excelled following his midseason trade to the Baltimore Orioles. In 2024, he recorded a 2.92 ERA with 181 strikeouts over 194.1 innings. The 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner continues to be a standout option in free agency.

Anthony Santander
Santander delivered a career-best season, setting personal highs with 44 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 91 runs scored. His ability to serve as a primary designated hitter makes him a valuable asset on the market.

Roki Sasaki
Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki is set to transition from Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) to MLB after four dominant seasons with the Chiba Lotte Marines. The 22-year-old pitcher is reportedly narrowing his choices to the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

Other Notable Names

Veteran stars such as Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw, and Paul Goldschmidt are still available. Additionally, speculation surrounds Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez, following comments from Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown regarding potential roster changes.
