The MLB postseason is nearly set: here’s who’s in and who’s still fighting for the final spot
The playoffs bracket is almost locked in, with just one NL Wild Card slot still up for grabs.
The great October party in Major League Baseball is one day away from being finalized, and most of the participants already have their ticket secured. The latest to guarantee their place were the Cleveland Guardians, who also ended the Houston Astros’ postseason streak.
Only one playoff berth is left – the final Wild Card in the National League. The Cincinnati Reds currently hold the edge, but the New York Mets are determined to grab that spot. Cincinnati closes the season against the Milwaukee Brewers, while New York faces the Miami Marlins.
Wild Card Round matchups taking shape
In the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners would be the only teams to get byes during the Wild Card series. The Cleveland Guardians, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers can still shuffle their positions in the final game of the regular season.
The Milwaukee Brewers finished as the best team in baseball and have already secured home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Philadelphia Phillies fell just one win short of topping the National League. That means the Los Angeles Dodgers will play the Wild Card series against the weakest qualifier – either the Reds or the Mets. The other Wild Card clash will see the San Diego Padres face the Chicago Cubs.
