The umpteenth record set by baseball phenomenon Shohei Ohtani, and other records set in Game 3 of the 2025 World Series
Freddie Freeman’s 18th-inning walk-off home run ends a seven-hour marathon filled with historic records and Ohtani brilliance.

Endless. Infinite. Agonizing. Epic. That was Game 3 of the 2025 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers – a night that has already secured its place in MLB history. After nearly seven hours of play, the Dodgers walked off the field in triumph thanks to a last-gasp home run by Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the 18th inning. The scoreboard read a stunning 6–5 as October’s midnight settled over Los Angeles.
A game legendary for its sheer duration will also be remembered for the avalanche of records it produced. After all, a lot can happen in 18 innings and six hours and 50 minutes. It now stands as the second-longest World Series game ever – and one of the longest in Major League history. But that was far from all.
Ohtani and other records from Game 3 of 2025 World Series
The Dodgers and Blue Jays set a World Series record by using a combined total of 19 pitchers in a single game. Shohei Ohtani made more history, becoming the first player ever in postseason history to receive four intentional walks in one game.
The Japanese superstar stayed red-hot: with four hits and two home runs, he became the first player with four extra-base hits in a World Series game since 1906.
There was even more Ohtani magic. He reached base nine times in a single game, tying the all-time MLB record shared by Stan Hack (1942), Johnny Burnett (1932) and Max Carey (1922). Ohtani’s total also set a new all-time postseason record.

Together, the Dodgers and Blue Jays stranded 31 runners on base, another World Series single-game record.
It was also the longest playoff game in Blue Jays history, surpassing the previous mark of 4 hours and 57 minutes in Game 2 of the 2015 ALDS against the Rangers (which lasted 14 innings).
Finally, the Dodgers’ bullpen delivered nine consecutive scoreless innings – and Los Angeles became the first team ever to use 10 pitchers in a World Series game.
