The Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) has announced the finalists for the 2025 MLB Most Valuable Player Awards in both the American and National Leagues, just days after the conclusion of the World Series.

The top three vote-getters for each of the four major awards in both leagues - MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year - were selected by BBWAA members. Two writers from each MLB city cast votes for the awards in their respective leagues.

When are the MVPs announced?

Winners will be revealed over four consecutive days starting November 10, beginning with Rookie of the Year, followed by Manager of the Year on November 11, the Cy Young Award on November 12, and culminating with the MVP announcement on November 13.

National League MVP finalists

  • Shohei Ohtani - Los Angeles Dodgers

Ohtani enters as the clear frontrunner to claim his third consecutive MVP and fourth in five seasons. If he wins, he would join Barry Bonds as the only players in MLB history to win the award four times - and the only ones to do so in three straight years.

At the plate, the Japanese superstar slashed .282 with 55 home runs, 20 stolen bases, 102 RBIs, 146 runs scored, and a 1.014 OPS. On the mound, he posted a 2.87 ERA with 62 strikeouts over 47 innings in 14 starts.

  • Kyle Schwarber - Philadelphia Phillies

Schwarber earns his first MVP nomination after leading the National League in home runs with 56 - edging out Ohtani by one. His power was a driving force behind the Phillies’ postseason push.

  • Juan Soto - New York Mets

In his first season with the Mets, Soto makes his third career appearance as an MVP finalist. The Dominican slugger launched 43 home runs, led the NL with 38 stolen bases, drove in 105 runs, scored 120 times, and topped the league with a .396 on-base percentage.

American League MVP finalists

  • Aaron Judge - New York Yankees

The Yankees’ captain and two-time MVP (2022 and 2024) is back in the mix after another monster season. Judge crushed 53 home runs - his fourth career 50-homer campaign - led the league in runs scored (137) and walks (124), and posted a jaw-dropping slash line of .331/.457/.688.

  • Cal Raleigh - Seattle Mariners

Raleigh delivered a historic season behind the plate, becoming just the seventh player in MLB history to hit 60 home runs in a single season. He shattered the single-season home run record for both catchers and switch-hitters, playing a pivotal role in Seattle’s first division title since 2001.

  • José Ramírez - Cleveland Guardians

Ramírez turned in his second straight 30-40 season, finishing with 30 home runs, 44 stolen bases, and a .283/.360/.503 slash line. The Dominican star continues to be one of the most dynamic and consistent players in the game.
