To date, Team USA’s journey in the WBSC Premier12 tournament has been solid. Their latest 12-2 rout of Mexico showed the depth of their lineup and pitching staff, sending a clear message: this team is Tokyo-bound and ready to compete.

But the road ahead is paved with serious challenges, as three other teams— Venezuela confirmed and two of Australia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Japan, South Korea and Chinese Taipei – are primed to test their mettle in the Super Round. Can Team USA outpace Venezuela’s offense?

Venezuela enters the Super Round with momentum that could rival a freight train. Fresh off an 11-0 demolition of the Netherlands, they’ve proven they can punish opposing pitching at every turn. Ehire Adrianza’s two home runs in that game were just the tip of the iceberg for an offense that racked up 14 hits and hasn’t let up since the tournament began. With a 4-1 record, Venezuela more than earned their place atop Group A.

This Venezuelan squad isn’t just talented – they’re prepared. Manager Omar Lopez revealed the team’s obsessive attention to detail, with players like Gerardo Parra reviewing film at 4 a.m. and analysts working late into the night to devise strategies. Group B: Japan with home advantage

The Americans will have to wait to know who else will join them from Group B but as it stands there are two teams that many experts believe they should fear on the Tokyo stage.

Then there is Chinese Taipei, who have overcome South Korea and the Dominican Republic in their first two games.

When is the Premier12 Super Round?

That said, it’s too early to know who’s coming through from Group B. Team USA, along with Venezuela will wait, before heading back out on Wednesday/Thursday, November 20/21 where the round robin format kicks in with the final four teams.

When is the Premier12 Final?

The final of the 2024 international event (and third place game) takes place on Sunday, November 24. While there are three obstacles ahead for Team USA, a showpiece title will be all that’s in mind.
