Willy Adames set to sign record deal with San Francisco Giants: Contract length, salary details
The 29-year-old shortstop was the Giant’s top target over the offseason after impressing in recent seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The San Francisco Giants have made a major move in the offseason, agreeing a deal to bring in shortstop Willy Adames from the Milwaukee Bucks.
Adames was ranked as the Giants' top priority ahead of the 2025 season and the 29-year-old is one of the most coveted free agents on the market. Shortstop had become a problem position for the Giants after struggling to find a suitable replacement for former star Brandon Crawford.
The future of Adames has been one of the main storylines during the offseason, alongside the protracted race to sign free agent Juan Soto. Adames will not command the sort of fee that Soto is expected to earn, but he won’t come cheap.
How much will Willy Adames earn with the Giants?
ESPN report that the Giants have agreed terms with Adames on a $182 million, seven-year deal that would represent the largest package in team history. The offer reportedly includes a massive $22 million in signing bonuses.
That deal would eclipse the current club-record agreed with catcher Buster Posey. The $167 million deal offered to Posey in 2013 that kept him with the Giants for the entirety of his professional playing career. Now, Posey is the president of baseball operations and was a key figure in the deal to bring Adames to Oracle Park.
A deal of this size is a statement signing for the Giants after a bleak 2024 showing but his arrival is unlikely to be transformative. He has developed into a top offensive producer in his position but his defensive capabilities are less impressive. He made 20 errors across 2024 but is still an impact infielder, someone who will help to add more firepower to the Giants’ offensive lineup.
