The New York Yankees may have walked out of T-Mobile Park with a win over the Seattle Mariners in the 2025 Major League Baseball season – but they also left with a devastating setback. Venezuelan third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera sustained a serious injury to his left leg and had to be taken away by ambulance for further medical attention.

The incident occurred following a sacrifice fly from Aaron Judge. As Cabrera sprinted home, he attempted to slow down just before reaching the plate, but his left leg appeared to lag slightly behind. That’s when the injury struck. Cabrera immediately collapsed on the dirt near home plate, clearly in distress.

Medical staff from the Yankees rushed onto the field. Cabrera, visibly in pain, was attended to as one of the team’s doctors quickly covered the lower part of his leg with a towel – suggesting a potentially graphic injury in the ankle or fibula area.

As he lay on the ground, Yankees manager Aaron Boone and team captain Aaron Judge both dropped to one knee, their faces etched with genuine concern and sorrow. More players soon gathered around Cabrera, standing by him until he was loaded into the ambulance.

Grisham and Judge speak on Cabrera’s injury

Speaking to the YES Network, Trent Grisham said: “Oswaldo is the best of us. He shows up every day with the right attitude, plays with intensity, and he’s the best person off the field. Yeah, we just love him, man.”

Aaron Judge then shared his thoughts: “Oh, that’s terrible, you know? Especially how much Cebrera means to this team. To get hurt on a play like that just shows what kind of guy he is. It was a game where we got a little bit of a lead and he was still fighting until the very last out.”

“So everyone in here feels terrible, because we know how hard he works, how much effort he puts in. How much he loves and cares about everyone in this clubhouse. And the way he approaches every game, every single day he’s here – it’s really a blessing.

“He called me over and asked ‘Did I score?’ Kinda shows you the type of guy he is.”
