Yankees’ Judge sends a clear warning to the rest of the league
New York’s captain insists the team’s struggles are under control and a hot streak is on the horizon.
The final game of the third series this year between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays took place on Wednesday in Major League Baseball’s 2025 season. In a clash packed with drama, the Canadian franchise came out on top, widening their lead at the top of the American League East to four games over the Bronx Bombers.
The matchup featured home runs from New York, timely hitting from Toronto, and yet more defensive errors from Aaron Boone’s side. Once again, the Yankees gifted runs to their rivals, bringing their total to 10 errors in 10 games against Toronto this season. The division leaders now hold a 7–3 record over New York.
Yankees captain Aaron Judge addressed the media after the game. “It’s tough to say. We haven’t been playing great defense,” he admitted. “There are a lot of things we need to clean up, and that’s one of them. Now we’ve got a day off coming up, and we’ve got to reset and tighten things up defensively. Our pitching’s been solid, hitting the right spots, and that’s what keeps us in games so our offense can do its job. But if we give extra outs to a good team, it’s not going to go our way.” Judge also hit his 37th home run of the season.
Judge confident Yankees can bounce back
The Yankees’ most influential figure also stressed that the team has what it takes to reverse their recent dip in form. “A lot of these guys, we had a long postseason last year. We’ve been in big moments, high-stakes situations. Everyone in this clubhouse is battle-tested.”
“Young guys, vets – we’ve all played in meaningful games. Things never get tense in here. No one gets nervous or scared. We have to play aggressively. That’s the mindset we try to carry. Things haven’t gone our way the last few nights, but these are problems we can fix. It’s under our control, and we’re going to handle it.”
Judge also had a message for the rest of the league as the Yankees try to regain momentum: “It’s coming. We haven’t gotten hot yet, but it’s going to happen. And when it does – watch out.” Asked if his faith in the team remained intact, he didn’t hesitate: “That doesn’t change.”
