Yankees show signs of life as Judge and Chisholm flip the script on Blue Jays

Aaron Judge’s three-run blast and Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s go-ahead homer spark a thrilling comeback as New York stays alive in the ALDS.

AL BELLO
Update:

The New York Yankees came roaring back to life, winning Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, 9–6, at Yankee Stadium. The Bronx crowd played its part as the home team stormed from behind to stay alive in the series.

Toronto opened the game with the same energy that carried them through the first two wins at home. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launched a two-run homer in the first inning, crushing a breaking ball from Carlos Rodón 427 feet to center field. The Yankees immediately responded with an RBI single from Giancarlo Stanton that brought Aaron Judge home.

Both teams traded blows again in the third. The Blue Jays extended their lead with singles from Daulton Varsho and Ernie Clement, followed by a bases-clearing double from Anthony Santander that chased Rodón from the game. The Yankees clawed back with a double from Judge and a sacrifice fly by Stanton to narrow the gap to 6–3.

Judge sparks a Bronx comeback

The fourth inning turned into a statement for the Yankees. An error by Addison Barger allowed Austin Wells to reach base, and Mason Fluharty then walked Trent Grisham. That set the stage for Aaron Judge’s three-run home run, his first of the postseason, a towering shot off Louis Varland that clanged off the left-field foul pole to tie the game.

Momentum firmly shifted in the fifth, when Jazz Chisholm Jr. crushed a solo homer to put New York ahead for the first time. Wells later drove in another run with an RBI single before getting caught trying to stretch it into a double. The Yankees added a ninth run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Ben Rice.

New York threatened again in the eighth, loading the bases, but Stanton’s deep drive ended up in the glove of Ernie Clement to end the inning.

Bednar slams the door

Closer David Bednar sealed the win in emphatic fashion, striking out George Springer and Nathan Lukes for two of the final three outs. Guerrero Jr. battled through a seven-pitch at-bat before grounding out to third to end the game.

Game 4 of the ALDS between the Yankees and Blue Jays is set for Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 7:08 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium.
