The NBA Finals are here and for the second time it will be played by the Celtics and Warriors, after a 4-1 win for the all-conquering Boston in 1964.

This season, the Celtics defeated the Miami Heat in a 4-3 thriller of the Eastern Conference Finals, while the Warriors overcame the Mavericks 4-1 bringing them closer to their fourth title in eight years.

The best of seven series starts tonight, on June 2nd, with Game 1 at 9:00 pm ET in San Francisco.

And before we take you there live, let’s walk you through how the Warriors and Celtics head-to-head was like in the 2022 regular season matches?

Warriors vs Celtics in the regular season

The Dubs and Celtics split the season series, with both of them winning on the road and San Francisco getting first dibs.

The Warriors beat the Celtics 111-107 in Boston on Dec. 2021, thanks to Steph Curry’s 30-point game.

The Celtics then beat the Warriors 110-88 in San Francisco in March, with the trio of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart running the show in the second regular season match of the season. Smart did slow down the Splash Brothers when he injured Curry in the game, keeping him away from his team for three weeks.

Overall records of Celtics and Warriors

During the 82 game regular season, Boston and San Francisco’s records were pretty similar.

In the Eastern Conference, the Celtics were second with a 51-31 record, while in the West the Warriors were third with an outstanding 53-29 record.

That’s why the Warriors will have home court advantage through the NBA Finals – including the potentially deciding game 7 in California.

Celtics and Warriors history

The Celtics (22) and the Warriors (12) have more Finals appearances than any other franchise in the league, with the exception of the Los Angeles Lakers (32).

The two teams have met on one other occasion in NBA history; in 1964, when Wilt Chamberlain led San Francisco against a dynastic Celtics team led by Bill Russell. Boston won the series to get their sixth of eight consecutive NBA Championships.
