Almond milk, intermittent fasting and 250 grams of protein: How much weight Luka Doncic lost this offseason
From gluten-free meals to daily workouts, Doncic believes he is shaping up for his best season yet with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Luka Doncic has been everywhere in recent weeks, promoting the Jordan Brand on a whirlwind tour across the United States. He attended a Yankees game in New York, caught a Backstreet Boys gig in Las Vegas, and, of course, sealed a deal that cements his status as the undisputed face of the Los Angeles Lakers.
But it all began with the Slovenian star landing the cover of Men’s Health magazine, where he revealed a radical new look achieved through an overhaul of his training, diet and lifestyle.

After the Mavericks didn’t believe in his body holding up long-term, Doncic has unlocked a new level during his first offseason with the Lakers.

How Luka Doncic achieved his new look
The 26-year-old explained that he now follows a gluten-free, low-sugar, low-carb diet built around at least 250 grams of protein per day, plus a daily almond milk shake. He also practices intermittent fasting - going from 8:30 p.m. to noon the next day without eating - to maximize muscle recovery and fat burn. His first meal only comes after completing a 90-minute morning workout.
That’s just part of his intense daily routine, which includes two training sessions focused on strength, agility, and shooting. This lifestyle transformation started in 2023 when Doncic formed “Team Doncic,” a personal performance squad including trainer Anze Macek, physical therapist Javier Barrio, and nutritionist Lucía Almendros.
With his U.S. promotional tour over, Doncic has headed back to Europe to prepare for EuroBasket 2025, taking place August 27 to September 14 in Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Poland.
The Lakers star won the tournament as a teenager in 2017, and Slovenia’s hopes rest on him as the country targets just its second-ever EuroBasket title.
How much weight did Luka Doncic lose this offseason?
Ahead of the competition, Doncic spoke with POP TV in Slovenia about his physical transformation, revealing he lost 31 pounds total. Having been listed at 230 pounds during the 2024-25 NBA season, that means he dropped about 13% of his body weight in one offseason, a dramatic change.
Will a leaner Doncic find even more success on the court? The star believes so. “Obviously, I want to be the best that I can be, take care of myself,” he told Men’s Health. “This year, with my team, I think we did a huge step. But this is just the start, you know. I need to keep going. Can’t stop.”
A scary thought for the rest of the NBA, and for EuroBasket hopefuls.
