Caitlin Clark clears up 2025 WNBA All-Star Game appearance doubts

Question marks have surrounded the Indiana Fever guard’s likely showing during the All-Star break, until now.

The WNBA had hoped to make this year’s All-Star Game a midseason celebration centered around Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever point guard and face of the league’s new era. But the star attraction won’t be taking the court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse this weekend.

Why is Caitlin Clark not playing in All-Star Game?

In a statement released through the Indiana Fever’s social media, Clark announced that she will not be participating in either the All-Star Game or the Three-Point Contest, citing the need to rest her body. The guard suffered a left groin injury in a recent game against the Connecticut Sun but said she still plans to be part of the festivities.

“I’m incredibly sad and disappointed to announce that I can’t participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game,” Clark said. “I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I’m looking forward to helping Sandy coach our team to a win.”

Clark isn’t the only last-minute scratch from the All-Star lineup – Satou Sabally of the Phoenix Mercury has also withdrawn. Their spots will be filled by Brittney Sykes and Brionna Jones.

Caitlin Clark’s 2025 season by the numbers

Injuries have been a recurring obstacle for Clark in the 2025 WNBA season. The former Iowa standout has played in only 13 of the Fever’s 23 games leading into the All-Star break. Over that stretch, she’s averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds.

Unfortunately for the 2024 Rookie of the Year, her performance has dipped from her debut season. Most concerning is her three-point shooting – Clark is hitting just 27.9% from beyond the arc, a noticeable drop from her 34.4% clip last year.
