Caitlin Clark injury update ahead of trip to New York Liberty
The Indiana Fever star suffered a groin injury against the Connecticut Sun last week but head coach Stephanie White had good news for fans.
Despite sitting out last weekend’s WNBA All-Star game due to injury, there is hope that Caitlin Clark’s spell on the sidelines will be a brief one.
Clark suffered a re-occurrence of a groin injury in a game against the Connecticut Sun last week, forcing her to sit out the All-Star Game. She was expected to miss the trip to the New York Liberty on Tuesday but the team has confirmed that Clark will travel, although she seems unlikely to play.
“I think [Clark’s] progressing,” Fever head coach Stephanie White explained. “I think that we’re continuing to address everything that needs to be addressed.”
“She’s going to see some doctors and get some more tests run early in the week. I don’t expect her to be available on Tuesday. We’re just going to continue to take it one day at a time and let her get her evaluations early this week, and then once we’ve done that hopefully we’ll have more of a clear [understanding] of what it looks like.”
It is a major blow for Clark, who also missed the road game against the Liberty back on July 16. This latest fitness issue means that she will miss both chances to take on the reigning WNBA champions at their Barclays Center home court.
Although Caitlin Clark wasn’t on the court at the All-Star game, she did play a big role in one of the main storylines from the event. Players walked out onto the court wearing t-shirts that read ‘Pay Us What you Owe Us’ in relation to an ongoing pay dispute in the league. Clark was also wearing one of the shirts on the sideline and reiterated her commitment to the cause.
“That’s one of the things we’re in the room fighting for,” Clark said on Saturday. “We should be paid more and hopefully that’s the case moving forward as the league continues to grow. I think that’s something that’s probably the most important thing that we are in the room advocating about.”
