Update:

The 2024/25 NBA season is reaching a thrilling crescendo with a finely-poised Finals series between the Pacers and the Thunder, but the offseason trade talk is already heating up.

It had looked like the biggest storyline of the offseason would be the fate of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar who looked set to leave. After a third consecutive first round exit in the playoffs, Giannis had hinted that his time in Milwaukee was over.

There have been plenty of reports about potential landing spots, even talk of a stunning move to the New York Knicks. But on Tuesday, comments made by Giannis suggested that his departure is not guaranteed.

Speaking to the media during a trip to Brazil this week, the 30-year-old was asked for his pick between the Thunder and the Pacers in the NBA Finals. His response will have brought cheer to the hearts of Bucks fans.

“Two great teams made it there, two great teams...Indiana, with my friend Pascal Siakam, is reaping its rewards, and on the OKC side, you’ve got the MVP right there,” Antetokounmpo said. “I’m rooting for some good basketball. That’s it. The Finals are something else, I hope to be back soon with the Bucks.”

It’s far from confirmed but Giannis has gained a reputation as a straight-shooter and he took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to the Bucks. Likewise, ESPN’s Brian Windhorse has reported that there has been no push from the player’s side to initiate talks elsewhere.

“Right now, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market,” Windhorst said. “There is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade discussions. He has not asked for it, the Bucks are not looking to trade him.”
