Giannis Antetokounmpo on Luka Doncic: “I sh*t myself”

Estados Unidos Update:

The historic and unexpected trade of Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers last season continues to echo around the NBA. The Slovenian had carried the Texas franchise to the NBA Finals the previous year, but the Mavs chose not to commit to him with a long-term max contract. Instead, the front office offered little more than criticism of their star’s physical condition at the time of his departure for Los Angeles.

Now the narrative has shifted. Doncic is in the best shape of his career at 26 and enters motivated to silence his doubters in his first full season with the Lakers. He has made it clear his goal is to win as many titles as possible with one of the NBA’s most decorated franchises, and he wants to begin building that legacy right away. Backed by LeBron James and a roster strengthened over the summer, Doncic knows there will be no excuses – in Los Angeles the expectation is always to compete for a championship.

One of the most surprising trades in sports history

The move also served as a wake-up call for other stars across the league, including Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. In an interview with SPORT24 ahead of the 2025/26 NBA season, he admitted that after what happened with Doncic, no one can feel safe.

“I sh*t myself. I was getting treatment when a friend told me Doncic had become a Laker. I was shocked, I almost couldn’t believe it. If Luka got traded, then anyone can be.

"He took his team to the Finals. And we’re talking about Luka Doncic – he’s only 26,” said Antetokounmpo.
