Update:
The Philadelphia 76ers are heading to the first round of the playoffs after beating the Miami Heat in Eastern Conference’s opening Play-In game.

The Heat took Philly down to the wire, but Philly converted in each and every big play late in the game to keep Miami at bay. Kelly Oubre had just 11 points on the night, but this might have been the biggest shot of the night.

Oubre's AND-1 was enough to see the Sixers through to the first round of the playoffs where they will meet the New York Knicks while the Heat will have to play the winner of the Hawks vs. Bulls Play-In game.

Heat's starters

The postseason is here and that means it's time to unleash Jimmy Buckets. The Heat star usually saves his best for last, and against a team that chose Tobias Harris over him, he is certainly going to have something to say. He is joined by Herro, Martin, Jovic and Bam Adebayo.

as.com

Sixers starters

Joel Embiid is indeed in the starting five after a bit of speculation of his status coming into the night. He reinjured his surgically repaired knee against Orlando last week and sat out the season finale against the Brooklyn Nets, but he is back in the starting five tonight. He is joined by Oubre, Harris, Lowry and Maxey who is having a career season.

as.com

Season series

The Heat and the Sixers met four times during the regular season, and all four games came down to the wire. The Heat won two games and the Sixers won two games. Each team won at home and on the road, and each of the four games were decided by seven points or less. Miami won the first two games, the first of which, the Sixers had Embiid and Philly won the second two, but Embiid was only around for the final game of the series. Past history would suggest that tonight’s game is going to go down to the wire.

as.com

Enter: Jimmy Buckets

Playoff Jimmy is a thing. If for some odd reason you forgot, let me remind you. Jimmy Butler was solely responsible for the Heat’s run deep to the NBA Finals last year. He averaged 27 points, 6.5 rebound and 4.6 assists as he took over games on a regular basis and led Miami to a historic postseason run. Butler’s numbers have been pretty consistent over the last few year, averaging 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, but if Playoff Jimmy doesn’t appear the Heat are going to have an awfully tough time making a repeat run to the Finals.

as.com

Embiid is back

If there was any doubt of just how important Joel Embiid is to his team, all you have to to was have a look at the miserable stretch they had without the reigning MVP. Philly went 10-17 in the 27 games their center missed, and it’s not a coincidence that once he came back they went back to looking like one of the best teams in the East. He has played in five of the Sixers seven games since returning from the meniscus injury, and is averaging 30.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists. He may not be eligible for a second straight MVP because of the amount of games he has missed, but his impact on the court is nothing short of MVP worthy. This season he is averaging 34.7 points, 11 rebounds and 5.6 assists.

How they got here: Heat

The Miami Heat were the only eight seed in the history of the NBA to make it all the way to the NBA Finals last year. Their shocking run came on the heels of a below average regular season, and that is exactly what they have had this season in the Eastern Conference. They made a mid season trade for Terry Rozier and that helped them turn things around during an stretch in which they were hovering around .500. They ended the season winning seven of their last ten and getting the eight seed heading into the Play-In.

as.com

How they got here: Sixers

After losing to the Celtics in Game 7 of the Conference semifinals, the Sixers offloaded James Harden and gave the keys of the car to Joel Embiid in hopes that he would lead them to the top of the conference standings and a deep playoff run. Embiid and new coach Nick Nurse has the Sixers floating around the two or three spot in the standings for most of the year, but Joel Embiid’s injury against Golden State at the end of January was a devastating blow that sent the team spiraling down the standings. Embiid came back in the final couple weeks of the season and that triggered a Sixers hot streak heading into the postseason.

We are live from Wells Fargo Center

Hello everyone and welcome to the City of Brotherly Love where the Sixers glide into the the Play-In tournament on an eight game win streak. It has been a bumpy ride for the Sixers who were tabbed as one of the top dogs in the East coming into the season. They looked like contenders for most of the season, but then disaster struck when their big man and reigning NBA MVP was sidelined with a torn meniscus at the end of January. He is back, and so are the Sixers who could be a real threat in the East, but they will have to get through the Miami Heat who have been streaky to say the least. This team has another gear once they get to the playoffs, and that is all thanks to one man, Jimmy Butler.
