With the Mavs having avoided elimination with an impressive performance, the question now is whether or not they can do it again and on the road?

Warriors look to close out the Mavs

With a record of 8-0 at home during the post season and an average winning margin of 118-103, the Warriors are formidable at home to say the least. Moreover they have never lost Games 4 and 5 consecutively after taking a 3-0 lead. On the other hand the Mavericks - despite Golden State’s lead - have caused problems for Steph Curry and Co. at differing times and as one will remember, they blew a 14 point lead in their most recent game at Golden State. Indeed, Curry himself acknowledged that hi team has had its difficulties in adapting to the Mavericks style of play.

“Playoffs are fun. It’s a game of adjustments,” he said. “You’ve got to figure it out...if you can’t do it on the fly, then you have a game like (Tuesday). The next 48 hours, you get prepared and come out with another level of focus on what they did.” Focus or not, all eyes will be on them come Thursday night.

The Mavs look to profit off of the zone

“The biggest compliment we’ve gotten is they’ve got to play zone because they can’t play us one-on-one.” Those were the words spoken by Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd after his team’s Game 4 win on Tuesday. Kidd of course was referring to the fact that the Warriors have mixed man-to-man and zone defenses throughout the series with varying results. “They’re going to play zone a majority of the game, so it’s going to present a problem for them in terms of giving up 3s,” Kidd continued and indeed he’s correct with the Warriors having seen Luka Doncic and his teammates drain a whole host of shots from beyond the arc.

With all the above said, the reality still is that there is no margin for error at this point, it’s either get it right or go home. “They’re winning the series, but we believe that if we continue to keep getting the shots that we’ve had, if we make them, it will put pressure on them,” said Kidd before going on to add, “We know going into Golden State, it’s a tough place to win, and we’ve won there before (107-101 on Feb. 27). We just have to continue to take care of the ball and make shots.” Can the Mavericks do that in the end?
