How much money does Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra make a year?

Having guided the Heat to the NBA Finals, you can probably guess that coach Spo is no ordinary tactician, which is precisely why he’s compensated so well.

Though they didn’t get the win in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, there’s no doubt that the Miami Heat deserve to be there. To get to this point, the Heat had to go through Giannis and the Bucks, Brunson’s Knicks and of course the highly favored Boston Celtics led by Tatum and Brown. Yet, as much as the focus and praise has been centered on the players - rightly so - there’s also the architect behind their game, head coach Erik Spoelstra.

Coach Spo is one of the best in the business and for his efforts he is handsomely rewarded. Unlike players, coaches salaries are difficult to nail down, but Spoelstra has reportedly signed a contract extension that is worth in the neighborhood of $14 million.

This total value would see Coach Spo earn around $3 million per year in Miami. His deal had one year to run on it and while the reports on his extension are thin on the ground, it is said to be “long-term” which would mean something in the region of four to five years.

A two-time NBA champion in 2012 and 2013, Spoelstra actually started his career in the NBA as a video coordinator with the Miami Heat back in 1995. If he can stay in Miami, it would seem that he is happy to do so. And if reports are to be believed, the Heat are happy to have him.
