When the Golden State Warriors appointed Steve Kerr as head coach in 2014, he already had five NBA championships tucked under his belt as a player. Since then, he has added four more as a coach. With his recently signed contract extension, it appears his salary in the Bay Area is finally on par with what he has delivered.

How much does Steve Kerr make?

According to reports, Golden State’s head coach Steve Kerr now earns $17.5 million a year. To be clear, Kerr put pen to paper on a two-year deal in February that made him the highest-paid coach in the league. While the financial terms of the contract were not disclosed by the Warriors, it’s now clear that the Dubs are set on securing Kerr’s services for the foreseeable future. If we’re honest, why wouldn’t they? At 58 years old, Kerr has overseen guided the Warriors through 10 campaigns and in that time has secured four titles.

Of course, Kerr’s salary isn’t nearly as lofty as that which is earned by his star player. Regarded as the greatest shooter in NBA history, Stephen Curry signed a $215 million, four-year contract extension in 2021 that runs through the 2025-2026 season. To that end, the Warriors’ point guard is expected to earn $51.9 million in the 2023-2024 season. Not bad for a day’s work.

As for Kerr, it’s worth mentioning that he is currently sixth on the list of coaches with the largest number of championships, following Phil Jackson who has 11, Red Auerbach with 9, and John Kundia, Pat Riley, and Gregg Popovich who are tied with five trophies apiece. Can he add to that tally? Given the Warriors’ current record of 36-34 which is good enough for 10th in the Western Conference, one would be inclined to say, ‘Not this season.’ On the other hand, the team is still very much in with a shot at the playoffs. From there, who’s to say what can happen?
