Is Lakers star Lebron James considering buying an NFL team?

The Lakers star is no stranger to dabbling in team ownership and with Dan Snyder recently announcing his intention to sell the Washington Commanders, could James’ comment be a sign of things to come?

Having already dipped into the team ownership market on different occasions, it should come as no surprise that the Lakers star is considering doing so again. On the other hand, it might raise an eyebrow to see that he’s interested in doing so in the NFL.

LeBron James hints at NFL team ownership

According to recent comments, it would appear that Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James, may just be interested in owning a team in another one of America’s major professional sports leagues: The NFL. While it’s just speculation at this point, which is to say no team has been named and in turn there is no offer on the table, James had a rather interesting answer recently, when asked if he’d be interested in ownership. See for yourself:

Now, we do appreciate that James’ answer was just one word, however, the accompanying grin does lead one to question if there is more to it. It’s also worth noting, that James has quite a few links to the game of football, making ownership a logical step for someone in his position. Believe it or not, James was actually a decent wide receiver in high school and even considered a trial with an NFL team during 2011′s lockout. We should also mention that his show “The Shop” is set to debut next week as one of Amazon’s alternate Thursday night broadcasts. In that new slot, James along with Maverick Carter and a rotating group of guests will watch the game and have broad conversations about it. This is all to say, James has got football in his veins and that’s been the case for some time.

LeBron James has a history in team ownership

While the above-mentioned factors are largely rhetorical in nature, the reality remains that James has a track record of ownership or stake acquisition in several teams and moreover across different sports. At present, he owns a pickleball team, portions of two major soccer clubs in the form of Liverpool FC of England’s Premier League and AC Milan of Italy’s Serie A. There’s also his stake in a pro stock car group and even a small percentage of MLB’s Boston Red Sox. Most recently he expressed an interest in joining a hypothetical ownership group for an oft-discussed Las Vegas expansion NBA franchise, should that come to pass. Ultimately, with his love for the sport, his history in the ownership market and his portfolio of teams that he’s already involved with, you can see this one coming. Perhaps, the only thing that’s missing now, is a call to Dan Snyder of the Washington Commanders.
