Update:

LeBron James' injury suffered in the game against the Boston Celtics has had fans and pundits alike crossing their fingers for good news: and now we have an idea.

The 40-year-old left Saturday’s loss to the Boston Celtics with with 6:44 remaining in the fourth quarter; he did not return to the court but was quick to play down any concern, promising to “go day to day” in treating the issue.

On Christmas Day in 2018, LeBron suffered a groin tear that saw him miss 17 games. “I’ve been there before, and I know what type of injury you’re dealing with,” James recalled on Saturday. “Maybe [I] extended it a little bit too much,” James said.

It’s not as bad as [the 2018 injury]. It’s not as bad as that.”

What injury does LeBron James have? When will he return?

And now it seems like the timescale has been revealed, with ESPN reporting that James is set to miss around 1-2 weeks of action as he recovers from a groin strain.

While a week is not a long time, LeBron’s injury comes at the start of a jam-packed stretch of games; the Lakers are about to enter an eight-day period in which they will play six games, including two each against the Bucks and the Nuggets.

James had played in 58 of the Lakers' 62 games until last Saturday; he is averaging 25 points on 51.7% shooting, 8.5 assists and 8.2 rebounds this season. He finished with 22 points on 11-for-23 shooting (0-for-6 from 3) with 14 rebounds and 9 assists.

I looked at the score. ... I was like, ‘Oh s---,’” James admitted afterwards. “Those are moments you live for, especially in a game like this, not being out there. So I was cheering on the guys while I was back here [in the locker room].”
