LeBron James is about to start his 22nd season in the NBA and is still one of the great references of this sport, at 39-years-old.

He won a championship ring with the Lakers and a couple of months ago reached an agreement for a two-year contract extension in exchange for $104 million, a deal that will turn him into the first-ever NBA player to get to $500 million career earnings.

James is clear that he is getting closer and closer to his retirement from the court and has come clean about the way he wants to be remembered.

LeBron James on his legacy:

“From time to time I do think about how I want to be remembered. And I hope that it’s not just the game of basketball. I feel like if it’s just the game of basketball that people talk about, I feel like I’ve kinda failed my mission. The things I do in my community, the way that Savannah and I raised our kids, my relationship with my single-parent mother, my friendship with my guys; picking up my people from my home town... If those conversations don’t hit the barbershop, if those conversations don’t hit people’s emails and blogs, forums, whatever the case may be, then I feel like my mission wasn’t completed.”

And I’m not done. I’m old as f--k in basketball terms, but I’m super young in life. So I still have so much more work to do.” At 39 years old, he calls himself ‘old’ for the sport, but with a long life ahead of him.

LeBron James is coming off winning a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and finishing the NBA season with averages of 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Across his career, The King has played 21 seasons between the Cavaliers, Lakers and Heat. During his time on the court, he has averaged 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 1,492 regular-season games, being chosen to play in 20 All-Star games. His trophy cabinet includes Rookie of the Year award, 4 MVP awards, 4 Finals MVP awards and 4 NBA championships.
