Update:

The Los Angeles Clippers will be without Bradley Beal for the remainder of the season as the veteran guard prepares to undergo surgery.

Beal suffered a fractured hip in the 114-103 loss to the Phoenix Suns last weekend, forcing him to miss out the Atlanta Hawks game. His injury was initially listed as ‘hip soreness’ but further investigation determined that the problem was more serious.

Mark Bartelstein, Beal’s agent, said of the injury: “We met with numerous doctors and specialists around the country in collaboration with the entire Clippers medical staff over the last few days, and came to the decision unanimously that the surgery will allow Brad to have a full and complete recovery.”

Now 32, Beal is a three-time NBA All-Star but his career has been beset by a series of injuries. He has only played 70 games four time in his 13-year NBA career, a sign of the disruption that he has faced.

After 11 seasons with the Washington Wizards, Beal was traded to the Phoenix Suns in the summer of 2023 but he failed to replicate his previous form. He featured in just 53 regular season games in each of his two seasons with the Suns, averaging 18.2 and 17.0 points per game.

His average had dropped even further during his first outings with the Clippers, putting up an average of 8.2 points per game in his six appearances. He moved to LA on a two-year deal worth $10.98 million but the team will get precious little from his first season with the team. The second year of that contract is a player option, which could allow him to enter free agency in the offseason and look to start again elsewhere.
