Update:

The Dallas Mavericks have provided an update on Kyrie Irving after he underwent surgery on a torn ACL suffered late in the first quarter of the Mavericks’ 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings on March 3.

Irving was successfully operated on at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City on Wednesday, the franchise announced.

The 9-time NBA All-Star, ahead of his injury, was averaging at least 20 points, 40% 3-point shooting and 90% from the free throw line across his games in the NBA, being the only player in the country to hit such high numbers. His numbers in general were equally as impressive: 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists this season.

“The Dallas Mavericks announced today that Kyrie Irving underwent a successful surgery to repair a torn left knee ACL. Further medical updates regarding Irving’s status will be provided as appropriate”, read the message from the Mavs’ PR team.

When will Kyrie Irving be back for the Mavs?

A torn ACL is a long-term road to recovery, and the player will undoubtedly be out for the rest of the season.

Such a serious issue may even bleed over into next season, and any hiccup in the plan could lead to him not being fit for the start of the next campaign.

As for his current contract with the Mavericks, the 33-year-old has a $43.9 million player option for the 2025-26 season, which is the last of a three-year, $126 million deal that was signed back in the 2023 season.

After what has been an underwhelming campaign, and one that has seen them swap Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis, the Dallas Mavericks have a 35-38 record and are 3-8 since losing Irving, placing them in a disappointing 11th in the Western Conference standings.
