Memphis Grizzlies 85 vs 125 Los Angeles Lakers summary: stats and highlights | NBA Playoffs Game 6

Update:
The Los Angeles Lakers return home up 3-2 and have a chance to close out the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6 tonight from Crypto.com Arena.

The seventh seeded Los Angeles Lakers are on to the next round of the NBA Playoffs after smashing the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6 from Crypto.com Arena. D’Angelo Russell led the Lakers to the 125-85 Victory with 31 points to advance to bring the Lakers one step closer to the NBA Finals.

LA jump out early, don’t look back

The Lakers tipped off shortly after the Golden State Warriors lost to the Sacramento Kings at home which will force a Game 7 back in Sacramento. LA wanted to avoid that situation at all costs and came out making a statement from the start.

For Memphis Game 6 couldn’t have started any worse. It was a mix of some terrific shooting from Los Angeles, especially from D’Angelo Russell who had 10 first quarter points in a night in which he would end the game as the top scorer and some dreadful offense in the biggest game of the year.

The Grizzlies went through a span where they hit just 3 of 14 field goals and the Lakers would take an 11 point lead to end the first quarter and cruised to victory from there.

Russell erupts in Game 6

LeBron turned it on in the second quarter, and so did Anthony Davis who ended the first half with a double double while Memphis would score 44 first half points in a night where both Ja Morant and Desmond Bane never found their rhythm.

Morant had just 10, and Bane scored 15 after scoring 30+ in back-to-back games. Jaren Jackson Jr. was too busy trying to contain Davis on the other end to make an impact on the game. Memphis shot just 30% from the field in one of their worst offensive showings of the season.

The second half started with the Lakers hitting three straight threes, including Russell’s two in a row in a quarter that saw him put up 14 points. He ended the night with 31 points on 12/17 shooting in just three quarters.

Waiting on Kings-Warriors winner

The lead stretched to 33 heading into the fourth quarter which allowed Lakers coach Darvin Ham to rest his starters for the final 12 minutes. LeBron had 22 while Davis ended the night with 16, 14 and 5 blocks.

The backups would build the lead to 40 by the end of the game, as the Lakers strolled into the second round of the playoffs. They will now enjoy a few days rest while awaiting the winner of Game 7 in the Warriors-Kings series.

Warriors and Kings headed to Game 7

We are still awaiting the end of the Warriors Kings game to get this game started and the way things are going in the Bay, it looks like they are headed to a Game 7. Will the Grizzlies be able to do the  same tonight at Chase Center?

as.com

Can Jaren Jackson Jr. be the differnce maker tonight for the Grizzlies? He is the 2022/23 Defensive Player of the Year and he it will be his job containing Anthony Davis tonight. He can do it on the offensive end to, and tonight Memphis is going to need their big man working overtime.

as.com

This is the same starting five that Darvin Ham has used all series long. It's the five that got up 35-9 in the first quarter of one game, but also the same five that went down 14 in the first half of Game 5.

Upset alert!

Top seeds beware! The 2023 NBA Playoffs have been full of surprises so far and we could see even more surprises by the end of the first round. The 8 seed Miami Heat took down the 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, while Boston narrowly edged out the Hawks in Atlanta to close the series. In the West, both the Lakers and the Warriors come into tonight a win away from the second round. The Warriors had the early tip and are currently in the fourth quarter, trailing the Kings by 13.

as.com

Big night coming for Brooks?

Dillon Brooks has been the talk of the series. He was the one who came out and said that he wanted the Lakers in the first round. Then challenged LeBron, calling him old, and claiming that if someone doesn’t post 40 on him then he isn’t impressed. After blaming the media for making him the bad guy after Game 4, he has now sent warning shots to the Lakers saying that his subpar three point shooting performance is bound to turn around at some point in this series. He shot 32.6% from long range this season but is 8/37 from downtown coming into Game 6 in LA.

as.com

Grizzlies fighting for survival

Ja Morant has had a bumpy last couple months. Whether he’s in the news for waving a gun around a Denver strip club, or injuring his hand in Game 1 of the first round series things have not been very comfortable for the Grizzlies superstar, but his teammates have stepped up when he has been sidelined or suspended. There would be no better way to pay his teammates back then with a big performance tonight in LA. He’s already had games of 45 and 30 in the series, and tonight Memphis is going to need their superstar to look like a superstar.

as.com

LeBron back in LA

Sometimes we forget that LeBron is 38 years old. Let’s be honest, it’s his fault. Someone his age shouldn’t be dominating the league like he is, so it’s easy to forget that he is pushing 40. Last time out, he looked mortal, going for 5/17 and scoring just 15 points in the Game 5 loss. Tonight, he is in front of his home fans, and has a chance to close out the game under his own roof. LeBron doesn’t need to put up huge numbers for the Lakers to win since the mid season trades turned this team around, but he is still capable of it and we may see that on display here tonight.

Game 5 recap

Memphis did what they have been doing all year, which is take care of business at the FedEx Forum. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies lost just six games at home during the regular season, and stepped up in a must win game against LeBron and the Lakers. LA looked exhausted in Game 5, after edging out the Memphis in overtime in the previous matchup. James went just 5/17 from the field on a night where the Grizzlies held on to a double digit lead essentially all night, as Memphis’ to stars put up 30+ points. LA actually pulled with in a point late in the third, but a 25-2 run led by Desmond Bane who had 32 and Ja Morant who added another 30 secured the home victory and extended the series back to LA for Game 6.

We are live from the Crypt

Hello everyone and Welcome to LA where the Grizzlies are on the brink of elimination for the second straight game after beating the Lakers in a must win game on Wednesday night. For the first time this series Memphis looked like the team that finished the regular season second in the West, with Ja Morant looking like his usual explosive self, and Desmond Bane going from sidekick to superstar on the second end of back to back nights. The Lakers are still the hottest team in the playoffs despite losing Game 5 in Memphis. They ended the season winning 9 of 11 games and despite losing a couple games in this series they are still big favorites to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
