Nikola Jokic is on the verge of an NBA first: This is the record no player has ever achieved
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is a few games away from doing something that we have never seen in NBA history while adding to his long list of records.

There isn’t much that Nikola Jokic hasn’t done over the course of his Hall of Fame career. There also isn’t much that gets him too excited when it comes to his personal achievements. In the meantime the rest of us are left to marvel as he continues to write new pages in the NBA history books.
Must be Joking
I want to make sure you understand how impressive what the Serbian is about to do at the end of the season so I’m going to write in as simple terms as I can. Nikola Jokic is leading the NBA in assists. He is dishing 10.9 assists a game, which is one assist more than the second best assist man in the league, Cade Cunningham at 9.9 agp. That’s impressive for a 6’11” big man who doesn’t need to move a whole lot to let the game come to him.
The Nuggets center is also leading the NBA in rebounds. He is averaging 12.9 boards a game, which is an entire rebound more than the closest contender Karl-Anthony Towns with 11.9 rebounds per game. At 6’11” rebounding should be where he excels, but this is the Joker and we might be talking about the most complete player we have in the history of the game. If you have any doubts, keep on reading.

With 3 games left, he leads the league in BOTH rebounds and assists per game 🤯
No player in NBA history has ever led both categories… even across different seasons. pic.twitter.com/ndkKKfZxQq
There has never been a player to lead the league in both rebounds and assists, ever. In just a few days time Nikola Jokic will become the first player to lead the league in rebounds and assists in the same season. That’s incredible in itself, but now you have to take into account that there has never been a player in the history of the NBA that has led the league in rebounds one year and led the league in assists in another year. No player ever has ever done throughout the course of a career what the Joker is about to do over the course of this campaign. Players are either dominant rebounding the basketball or assisting, but not both. Especially not at the same time, during the same season.
Fourth MVP coming for Jokic?
Not to mention Jokic is also averaging 28 points per game which is good enough for 7th on the NBA scoring chart this season. All of this while shooting 56.8% from the field and 38% from behind the three point line. What we are seeing is living, breathing history being played out before our eyes from a guy who is in contention for his fourth MVP which would put him in elite NBA air.
He is on the verge of his second straight season averaging a triple double after posting 29.6, 12.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists a game last year. He has played 63 games, and have three games left. If he plays two of those final three games he will be eligible for regular season awards, and you would have to think that he is one of the favorites for the MVP after reading the last few paragraphs.
If we removed human emotion & the need to create a narrative for the MVP award every season, Jokic would be preparing to accept his 6th straight MVP award. https://t.co/oCUP9oRku1

It would be a historic MVP award considering there are only five players in the history of the league that have won the NBA MVP four times or more. LeBron James and Wilt Chamberlain won it four times over the course of their careers. Michael Jordan and Bill Russell both won five MVPs, and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar is at the top of the hill with six MVPs.
