Update:

When it comes to WNBA celebrities, no one comes close to Caitlin Clark. But in recent months her Indiana Pacers teammate Sophie Cunningham has started to make a name for herself.

Cunningham has emerged as Clark’s enforcer on the court, standing up for the Fever star when opposition players get overly physical. It’s made Cunningham one of the league’s most popular players and may even have set her up for a post-basketball career.

Last week Women of Wrestling (WOW) co-founder Dave McLane revealed that he was interested in bringing Cunningham to the world of pro wrestling in the future.

“I’m from Indiana. I’m from Indianapolis, and that’s the home of not only the second-best basketball team in the country this last year, but the biggest name in professional basketball today, Caitlin Clark. And Caitlin Clark has an enforcer. She’s the Marty McSorley to Wayne Gretzky, and she is a stunning athlete,” McLane explained.

“I flew to Las Vegas and watched them in action against the Aces, and I would love to have Sophia Cunningham in WOW, because she takes down the competition, and she makes sure that Caitlin Clark is safe on the basketball floor. We’d love to have Sophie in WOW.”

It may sound far-fetched but there is one very well-known example of a basketball star dabbling in wrestling. Former Chicago Bulls player Dennis Rodman notably left the team camp in the middle of the 1998 NBA Finals so he could appear on the canvas alongside Hulk Hogan at a WCW Monday Nitro event at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

According to Rodman’s account, Hogan told the Bulls star: “You just fly down for an hour, I’ll fly you right back’. I said, ‘Alright, cool’, and put my NWO outfit on, had the hat on and, got on the private plane, and got to Detroit. That was pandemonium.”
