Update:

The NBA All-Star Weekend has officially begun! Friday’s events kicked off with the Hall of Fame press conference, followed by the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game. Now, we await the start of the Rising Stars mini-tournament.

As we wait, let’s take a look at the coaches of the young stars and what they share in common.

NBA Rising Stars - the coaches

The NBA All-Star Rising Stars game features the league’s top youth talent, with the best rookies and sophomores selected. The player pool consists of 10 NBA rookies, 11 NBA sophomores, and seven G League players.

The mini-tournament is made up of four teams of seven players. All the G League players make up one team, and the remaining 21 are split into three different teams.

This year, the All-Star Weekend takes place in the Bay Area of San Francisco with the Rising Stars game held at the Golden State Warriors' stadium, Chase Center. The NBA announced the honorary coaches of each Rising Stars team - Tim Hardaway Sr., Chris Mullin, Mitch Richmond, and Jeremy Lin (who will coach the G League team). You may notice that all these coaches have something in common. All four are former Golden State Warriors players, a nice homage to the Bay Area’s Run TMC heroes.

While Lin will coach the G League players, Hardaway, Richmond, and Mullin held a draft to choose theirs. Richmond had the first-round pick and went with Houston Rockets guard Amen Thompson.
