Update:

The NBA was shaken once again by a major player swap, with the Atlanta Hawks trading Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. The deal sends guard CJ McCollum and forward Corey Kispert to Atlanta.

In the aftermath of the move, reports have emerged suggesting the Hawks are interested in signing Anthony Davis, the veteran star currently with the Dallas Mavericks. Young’s departure has given Atlanta added financial flexibility, making it possible to absorb Davis’ sizable contract.

According to the same reports, Atlanta would need to make additional roster moves to match Davis’ salary, potentially involving Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kennard. Davis is set to earn $58.5 million next season – the final year of a three-year, $175.4 million deal that also includes a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

Davis has appeared in 19 games for Dallas this season, having missed time with a calf strain. He is currently averaging 20.3 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists, production that continues to place him among the league’s elite big men when healthy.

The Hawks are not alone in monitoring Davis’ situation. The Detroit Pistons and the Toronto Raptors have also emerged as potential suitors ahead of the trade deadline on February 5 at 3 p.m. ET. Atlanta currently sits ninth in the Eastern Conference with an 18–21 record.
