Update:

Just two weeks after the Oklahoma City Thunder clinched their first NBA championship since relocating from Seattle—defeating the Indiana Pacers in a thrilling Game 7—the league is already shifting gears toward the new season.

The seventh California Classic Summer League tipped off at Chase Center in San Francisco, where the Golden State Warriors squared off against the Los Angeles Lakers. In a tightly contested matchup, the Warriors came out on top, securing an 89–84 win to open the tournament.

Warriors share out the points

The Warriors leaned into a team-first approach, spreading the scoring load across the roster. All 10 players who saw the floor contributed at least two points—a testament to Golden State’s depth and unselfish play.

Jackson Rowe and Isaiah Mobley led the way with 13 points apiece. Rowe added eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in a standout all-around performance, while Mobley chipped in three assists and two steals off the bench.

Among the Lakers with prior NBA experience, second-year forward Dalton Knecht took the floor hoping to make an early impact. But the former Tennessee standout had a rough shooting night, going just 3-for-13 from the field and missing all six of his three-point attempts.

Swider tops the scoring for the Lakers

Despite the cold hand, Knecht still managed to contribute across the board—finishing with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 30 minutes of action.

DJ Steward and Cole Swider were the driving force behind the Lakers’ offense in their California Classic opener.

Steward took command of the backcourt, running the offense with poise and efficiency. He poured in 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting and dished out five assists, showcasing his ability to both score and facilitate.
