What’s Steph Curry’s opinion on the 4-point shot?

The story of the four-pointer in basketball is not new, even in the context of the possible National Basketball Association rule introduction in the future.

After we saw the first official registered 4-point shot in the Philippines’ basketball league, the story was brought up to date again in America. Of course, when it comes to competitive, official matches, we’ve seen earlier four-point shots at All-Star matches and in the women’s skills competition.

Sabrina Ionescu, who at this year’s All-Star had a three-point shootout with Steph Curry, hit three consecutive fours at the WNBA All-Star competition year earlier in 2023.

How far is the 4-point line in the Philippine Basketball Association rule book?

The four-point line in the PBA is positioned 27 feet (8.22m) away from the rim.

Currently, the NBA has a 22-foot 3-point line in the corners and a 23-foot, 9-inch line elsewhere, while the WNBA and international games use a 20-foot, 6-inch line. The NCAA men’s game has a 20-foot, 9-inch line, while the NCAA women’s and high school games have a 19-foot, 9-inch line.

How does Steph see the introduction of the 4-pointer?

When looking at shots from a distance beyond the three-point line, many NBA players can confidently make shots from even farther away, possibly scoring four-pointers.

Although Steph Curry is the best example of this skill, he strongly opposes the idea.

It might benefit me if there was a 4-point line because I probably already shoot a bunch of them from well behind the three-point line,” Curry says.

But... “I feel like it would change too much of the geometry of the game, and it would encourage a lot of people that don’t know how to shoot to go and shoot even further,” he added.

By the way, Curry is a four-time NBA champion, ten-time All-Star, two-time MVP Finals MVP, and, since recently, Olympic gold medallist.
