Brazil make decision on Ancelotti’s future
The Italian coach is on the verge of extending his deal, with timing tied to the upcoming World Cup squad announcement.

Carlo Ancelotti’s renewal as Brazil head coach is all but complete. The Italian is expected to sign a contract extension once “a few basic legal details” are finalized, according to Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president Samir Xaud. Xaud has set a target date, indicating the deal should be completed before May 18, when the coach is due to name his 26-man World Cup roster. The agreement is expected to run through 2030, as previously reported.
“The idea is that he will already have signed the contract by the time of the final call-up. There are just a few basic legal aspects left to resolve. Both he and the CBF want to renew, and we trust his work. We have great confidence in him, which is why we are close to securing him through 2030. We feel well represented and well served in terms of the head coach,” Xaud said.
Ancelotti has consistently expressed his willingness to remain in charge of Brazil and addressed the possibility of renewal back in February. “I think I’ll renew for four years. It’s a new job and I really like it,” he said, adding with a smile during a press conference: “After the World Cup, it might cost more.”
His salary is expected to remain around $10.8 million per year, with additional performance-based bonuses. According to Globo Esporte, the current deal includes a bonus of roughly $5.4 million if Brazil wins the 2026 World Cup.
Support for his tenure has been strong within the coaching community, including from Filipe Luís. “There are no guarantees we’ll win anything, but it’s the best thing that could have happened. He brings us many positive things,” the Brazilian coach said.
