The Detroit Pistons have placed assistant general manager Rob Murray on leave as they investigate allegations of workplace misconduct with an ex-employee.
The Detroit Pistons have placed assistant general manager Rob Murphy on administrative leave following allegations he engaged in inappropriate workplace conduct with a former female employee.
Murphy will be on leave while the organization conducts an investigation that is expected to wrap up by next week. He had only been promoted to assistant GM and president of the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ G-League team, last month.
The 50-year-old executive has been on leave for around a week since management began the inquiry after they found out about the allegations.

Murphy has not been with Detroit long. He joined the Pistons organization in March 2021 as general manager of the minor league affiliate before he was elevated to Detroit’s assistant GM.
He was a high school and collegiate coach, serving as head coach of Eastern Michigan for ten seasons until 2021.
Workplace misconduct in the NBA
The investigation into charges of workplace misconduct against Murphy comes just weeks after the Boston Celtics suspended head coach Ime Udoka following the findings of an independent law firm that he had violated team policies. According to multiple reports, the matter pertained to an inappropriate relationship that Udoka had with a female staffer in the franchise.
