This might be the most unusual Taylor Swift “merch” yet

Update:

Taylor Swift fans have chased a lot of collectibles over the years. Concert tickets, signed albums, limited-edition merch drops... But this might be a first.

The chair that Taylor Swift sat in during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks is officially up for auction, and the price is already climbing.

How much is a seat Taylor Swift sat in actually worth?

Swift attended the game alongside her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. At the time, it was just another courtside seat. Now, it has became a collectible.

The chair was authenticated and listed for auction, starting at $100. Within days, it had jumped multiple times, drawing attention not just from sports fans, but from collectors and Swift’s massive global fanbase. ESPN reported that the most recent price was $800, but with the bidding open until June 14, that is expected to rise even further.

Taylor Swift’s influence has reshaped everything from streaming numbers to local economies. Now, it’s extending into sports memorabilia, specifically, items that wouldn’t normally hold any value at all. A courtside chair is, by definition, replaceable. But proximity to Swift has turned it into a one-of-a-kind artifact tied to a specific cultural moment. And that is what bidders are paying for.

Interestingly, Swift’s chair isn’t alone. Another courtside seat from the same game, used by actor and longtime Knicks fan Ben Stiller, is also being auctioned off.

But his seat isn’t generating nearly the same buzz and media outlets aren’t reporting on its price tag. It’s Swift’s seat that’s generating the most buzz, showing once again just how powerful her presence has become, even in spaces outside music.

This isn’t the first time an everyday object has gained value simply because Swift was associated with it. From ticket demand spikes to local business booms during her appearances, the so-called “Swift effect” has become a reliable phenomenon.

With bidding still active, the final price could climb significantly higher before the auction closes. And depending on who wins, it may not be the last time something like this happens. Because if this sale proves anything, it’s that when Taylor Swift shows up, even the seats become valuable.
