Why has the Hawks vs Rockets NBA game been postponed? When will it be rescheduled?
Several sporting events in and around Los Angeles have been called off, as has Saturday’s NBA matchup between Atlanta and Houston.
A number of sporting events have either been postponed or moved as a result of the devastating wildfires in California in the Los Angeles area. Home games for the Lakers and Clippers on Saturday will be played at a later date to ensure no resources are diverted from the wildfire response efforts, while the Minnesota Vikings vs LA Rams NFL Wild Card playoff game will now take place in Arizona. However, another NBA matchup has now been postponed on the other side of the country for an entirely different reason.
The Atlanta Hawks had been due to host the Houston Rockets at State Farm Arena on Saturday (January 11), with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
However, the NBA have made the decision to postpone the game because of the “severe weather” and “hazardous icy conditions” in Georgia.
“The National Basketball Association game scheduled for this afternoon between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena has been postponed,” begins an official NBA statement. “The decision was made in consultation with local officials and to prioritize the safety of the players, fans and staff due to the severe weather and hazardous icy conditions in the Atlanta area”.
The Hawks have stated that “all tickets and parking will remain valid for entry for the new date including transferred tickets”.
When will Hawks vs Rockets be played?
The league and teams concerned will now have to find a gap in their hectic schedule to play the game, with no date on the horizon at present.
“The date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time,” concludes the NBA statement. Similarly, new slots for the Lakers vs Spurs and Clippers vs Hornets games have yet to be found.
