Update:

NBA superstar James Harden was detained by authorities on the morning of Saturday, June 13, on a charge of illegal weapons possession.

TMZ first reported the story.

Harden was arrested in Texas, where he spent nine seasons with the Houston Rockets. The 36-year-old guard is coming off a season that ended in disappointment after his current team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, were swept 4-0 by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The charge against Harden is considered minor. According to initial reports, the weapon was allegedly in plain sight and not concealed.

He was released several hours after the arrest, which occurred when police discovered a handgun in the vehicle in which he was travelling in Texas. Bail has been set, and a preliminary hearing to resolve the matter is expected to take place within the next nine days.
