Patrick Mahomes in 8-word disbelief over Hurricanes

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback takes in a game or two in his spare time, and couldn’t help but respond to this final play.

Update:

Were you watching? Patrick Mahomes certainly was. That’s right, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback seemed to be so enthralled with what was served up by the Miami Hurricanes and Virginia Tech Hokies that he shared his feelings with the masses.

It was a classic game of college football, with everything you could ask for – drama, controversy, and a nail-biting finish that left fans, including those at the very top of the sport, gasping. The Hurricanes were holding onto a razor-thin 38-34 lead with less than two minutes to go, and as the Hokies (ever wondered why they’re called that?) pressed on, it seemed the fate of the game hung in the balance. Hokies’ quarterback Kyron Drones did what he does best: put the ball in the air for a potential game-winning touchdown. And then, chaos.

Touchdown, yes, no, for Virginia’s Felton

As the ball floated towards the end zone, time seemed to stand still for just a second. Both Miami and Virginia Tech players leapt for it in a scramble that could only be described as football’s version of a Black Friday sale. When the dust settled, Hokies wide receiver Da’Quan Felton appeared to have come down with the ball. Touchdown Hokies, right? Well, hold your horses.

The officials huddled together for a minute or so, pondering the decision and then ruled the touchdown to indeed be good. Hokies fans erupted in euphoria, believing they had pulled off a last-minute miracle. But wait, there’s more!

Cue a longer review. After what felt like an eternity, with some nails being chewed down to their cuticles, the decision came down: no catch. Felton, it turns out, didn’t quite have control of the ball. The Hurricanes breathed a collective sigh of relief as they escaped with the win. It’s one of those moments that those watching on will likely debate for some time – think Tony Romo to Dez Bryant for the Cowboys – but it’s good to know even the current stars of the game could empathise.

At first Mahomes posted on X, “Lolol no idea what happened in this game,” and a few moments later simply, “Wow lolol.” It was some finish indeed.
