Update:

The results are out! AP has released the findings of its Top 25 college football poll and there’s a brand new name at the top of the list.

For the first time in program history, Texas is ranked No. 1 in the nation ahead of the 2025 season. The Longhorns are just ahead of No. 2 Penn State by five points, the smallest leading margin since 1998.

In third place is defending champion Ohio State, who start their 2025 season against Texas on August 30. It will give the Longhorns the chance to get some revenge for their semi-final defeat last season.

Here’s a look at the full preseason college football rankings for 2025...

The Longhorns look set for another strong season, this time led by quarterback Arch Manning. The nephew of Super Bowl-winning QB Peyton and Eli Manning, a lot is expected of Arch.

“I think Arch has done a great job on just how he’s handled these first two years of his college career,” Eli said recently. “Taking advantage when he got the opportunity to play some, but learning, being patient, waiting, and now has a great opportunity to take over the team."

There was disappointment for a number of storied programs, however, after they slipped out of the top 25 for the first time in recent memory. This year’s list did not feature Iowa, USC and Utah, all of them dropping out of the top 25.

Utah’s fall is particularly stark, given that they were ranked No. 12 in last year’s preseason poll. They had been in the top 25 in each of the previous six years but drop out this time around.
