UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley is having a bumper year. In his fifth year as Huskies head coach, Hurley brought the school their fifth national championship.

As a reward, he has just inked a new six-year deal that will see him jet to the top of the college hoops payrolls with a value of $31.5 million. The deal will see Hurley stay at UConn through the 2028-29 season.

Hurley released a statement saying, “My family and I sincerely appreciate Dr. Maric, David Benedict, and the entire administration team for the faith and trust they have bestowed upon us. I want to thank the players and staff who helped make this climb possible. Coaching at the University of Connecticut is an honor and we intend to build on our success as one of the premier programs in college basketball.”

Hurley is as much a recruiter as a tactician and will face the daunting task of defending his national championship with some big pieces of the Huskies attack headed to the NBA.

Brought in to fix an ailing program, Hurley has brought UConn back to where they will feel that they traditionally belong. Right at the top of elite college basketball. For the privilege of staying there, $31.5 million feels like a bargain.
