Texas’ NFL teams and the league step up with major donation after deadly floods leave dozens dead and many still missing.
$1.5 million for flood disaster: the unexpected gesture by Cowboys, Texans and the NFL
As central Texas grapples with catastrophic flooding that’s already claimed at least 70 lives, another moment of unity has emerged from the NFL. On Sunday, the league confirmed that the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and the NFL Foundation are jointly donating $1.5 million to support victims and recovery efforts.
Texans make early commitment
The Texans first announced a $500,000 contribution Saturday, following the devastating storm that ripped through Kerr County and surrounding areas.
Fast-moving floodwaters from the Guadalupe River rose over 20 feet in under two hours, obliterating roads, homes, and entire communities.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott described the area as “horrendously ravaged.” Flash flood warnings are still in effect, and millions remain under alert across the state.Federal aid has been activated, and FEMA is now assisting on the ground, according to Homeland Security.
The NFL’s joint statement emphasized the donation would go toward both immediate needs and long-term rebuilding. “The Cowboys and Texans are uniting… to support the victims’ families and survivors,” the league said.
