49ers’ Christian McCaffrey eyes record touchdown streak
The running back for the San Francisco team has tied with legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice and now looks to rewrite the history books.

Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers is a touchdown machine, and he entered the Week 3 Thursday Night Football matchup against the New York Giants with a streak of 11 consecutive games with a touchdown, and it didn’t take him long to extend it to 12.
McCaffrey keeps on scoring
With 1:40 left in the second quarter, McCaffrey found the end zone by running up the middle and evading anything that tried to get in his way. With this, he tied the record for the most consecutive games with a touchdown, a record previously held alone by the legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice.

Rice, a Hall of Fame member since 2010, scored touchdowns in 12 consecutive games during the 1987 season. It’s worth noting that due to the NFL strike that year, the wide receiver was unable to play the full regular season and was limited to 12 out of the 15 games played that year.

How many rushing yards does McCaffrey have?
Another testament to McCaffrey’s prowess in rushing the ball is that he only needed 78 NFL games to surpass 5,000 rushing yards. Prior to the kickoff against the Giants, McCaffrey had accumulated 4,994 yards, and with a 10-yard run with 13:30 left to play in the first quarter, he crossed the 5,000-yard mark.
The running back was drafted in 2017 by the Carolina Panthers after his college career at Stanford. With the NFC South team, he managed to amass 3,980 yards in five and a half seasons, spanning 64 games. So far, in the first 13 regular-season games he has played with the Niners, McCaffrey has accumulated 1,014 yards.
When can McCaffrey beat the record?
If McCaffrey manages to score in Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals, he will fully claim the record that had been in place for 26 years.
