Estados Unidos Update:

Eli Manning, the legendary quarterback and two-time Super Bowl MVP for the New York Giants, is actively pursuing a minority ownership stake in the team that defined his NFL legacy. According to a report by Bloomberg, Manning is trying to organize a group of investors to purchase part of the 10% stake the franchise is putting up for sale.

Manning’s $800 million for 10%

The Giants, currently valued at approximately $8 billion, are offering a non-controlling 10% stake, which is expected to fetch around $800 million. Manning, who wore No. 10 during his entire 16-season career in New York, would become only the second former NFL player after Tom Brady to officially own part of a team.

A Giant for life: on the field and possibly in the boardroom

Manning led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories (XLII and XLVI), both against the New England Patriots, and earned MVP honors in both. Becoming a minority owner would solidify his status as a Giant for life in both symbolic and strategic terms.

The Giants, founded in 1925, are the fourth-oldest franchise in the league. The team was initially purchased for $500 by Tim Mara, grandfather of current co-owner John Mara. The other 50% has been held by the Tisch family since 1991, when Bob Tisch bought in for $75 million.

Brady comparison and NFL ownership trend

If the deal goes through, Manning would join Tom Brady, who recently had his 10% ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders approved by NFL owners. Brady’s move is seen as a broader trend of former players transitioning into executive and ownership roles, leveraging their star power and football acumen off the field.
