Update:

The Dallas Cowboys used to be America’s Team because they used to win. While the moniker may have stuck, the culture has certainly changed in the nearly three decades since they last won a Super Bowl.

Cutting corners to save costs and lacking the championship mentality has weighed on many of the players, and it’s only after they’ve left that the truth comes out. We saw it last season with Dalton Schultz and several other former players complaining about the facility tours. Dorance Armstrong, Tony Pollard, Kelvin Joseph, and even Dante Fowler, who recently re-signed with the Cowboys, all said that playing for their new teams after Dallas felt “more about football” and “winning championships” rather than “football and like, other stuff”.

Well, this year’s no different. First, it was defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks after 11 seasons in Dallas, and now it’s cornerback Jourdan Lewis, who signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after eight.

Jourdan Lewis blasts Dallas Cowboys

Jourdan Lewis played in Dallas for eight years, but there were a couple seasons when he hit free agency expecting not to return. This was the year he finally didn’t, signing with the Jaguars on a three-year, $30 million deal with $20 million guaranteed and $12.5 million in the 2025 season.

Now that he’s gone, he took to social media to express the frustration he’s been dealing with in Dallas all this time.

In his first post on X, he wrote, “Highest rated slot coverage grade and all we did was match and man.”

And in the next: “I’m sorry yall. This is about a decade of frustration, I’m done.”

After a career- best season, Lewis is relieved to finally be recognized and paid what he feels he’s worth as the Jaguars made him the highest-paid slot corner in the league.

“It’s funny. Every offseason, I think I am [leaving Dallas],” said Lewis in a press conference on Thursday. “But this time, it just felt a little different. Because I had the season I had last year, and people started to recognize the type of player I was. So, you know, it couldn’t be hidden anymore, and [they] couldn’t give me just the team-friendly deals anymore.”

“So that’s when I recognized, when I had the year, and I felt the buzz. I knew that maybe it might be my time to separate.”
